My Name is Jackie Potter. First and foremost, I am a servant of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. I am a member of Penny Road Community Church wherer I am a preacher, a deacon, and the leader of the mens ministry that meets at church on the first Monday of every month.
This is my testimony:
For years I felt that I was invisible. Before that I was living what I thought was the American dream. I had a home, car, a good job, wife and four children. In 1989 a coal mining injury destroyed that dream. I had been drinking for years, but after my injury I drank more and got on pain killers, which is a good name for them. They killed my home and family life. I lost it all. My wife divorced me and took the kids. Thats what the devil was waiting on, my weakest point. I was out in the world now, sin was good, for a season. Then the money ran out and I was homeless. I was then truly invisible. The people you grew up with pass you by. Then I checked out of society. During the day I stayed in libraries. I had an old cabin in the hills where I lived. I worked day jobs for cash. That was how I survived.
Then, as I know now, Jesus directed me to the PVA office in Pikeville where I met an earth angel by the name of Mary Lou who worked there. I'm sure she thought I was a wild man; but she offered me friendship. She treated me like a person, not a number. I thought I was invisible but she saw me, she looked at me as Jesus would. She was a child of God. I also praise God for her parents, Elder Troy Bryant and Buncie, for accepting me as I was. Like true christians, they welcomed me into their home and saw me as one of Gods' children. God bless them. Mary Lou helped me get back on my feet. For the first time in a long time I didn't feel invisible. But more important, she led me to Jesus. She looked at me and said, one day you are going to be a preacher. When I was a child I went to church with my mother but I was always apathetic toward God. I knew about Him but I didn't need Him. Mary Lou took me to church with her in 1998. I let Jesus come into my heart. He took the drugs and alcohol away and made my stony heart FREE with His precious blood. Now I am a new man in Christ. Mary Lou and I were married in 1998. We've been together for 10 years and serving God together. Jackie Potter - January 2009
